Intent for FEMA to Provide Assistance to Town of Sullivan's Island:
Notification is hereby given to the public of the intent of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide assistance to Town of Sullivan's Island, to retrofit the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 20151 Gull Drive, to reduce liability from rising flood water and earthquakes as part of the major disaster declared on March 12, 2014 as a result of the Severe Winter Storm. This facility is located within the base or one percent chance floodplain (also known as the 100-year floodplain). Base flood elevation is 11.0'.
Because of its location, this facility is susceptible to Floods and Earthquakes. Under the President's Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management, FEMA is required to review the restoration of this facility for opportunities to relocate it out of the floodplain or to minimize future damage from flooding. Public comment is invited on possible alternatives to this action, methods to protect the facility and on whether this facility should be restored at all.
Interested persons may obtain information about this action and its specific location at the Office of the Town Hall at 2056 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482 or by calling (843) 8883-5748 or (843) 883-3198 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Comments about this project and the application of the Floodplain Management Executive Order to it should be submitted in writing to Greg Gress or Andy Benke at the above address by 3/3/2017.
This public notice will also serve as the final notice provided there are no questions or concerns regarding this project.
