TREE TIP OF THE MONTH

Are you considering planting any new trees in your yard?

When planting please keep in mind your property line, utilities and right-of-way.....fifteen (15') feet distance is recommended.  Giving yourself this planting distance will help avoid future conflicts with neighbors and utility companies. 

Planting & Yardwork Guidelines

• Want to remove a tree?  Check with Building Department first
• No fences, structures, obstructions or plants in the right-of-way.
• A SCDOT permit is required for landscaping that interferes with off-road parking.

DEBRIS REMOVAL

• Contracting tree pruning and yard maintenance?  Contractors must remove their own debris.
• Grass clippings & leaves go in a clear plastic bag (no black bags)
• Limbs must be cut down to less than four (4') feet
• Loose debris should be placed in trash cans, clearly marked as yard debris

The Tree Commission is a five (5) member advisory board that meets to consider business related to the Town's tree protection ordinance.  

The scope of the Tree Commission, and the Town's tree protection ordinance, is outlined in Chapter 21, Zoning, Article XVII (Sec. 21-157 through Sec. 21-170). 

Regular Tree Commission Meetings are usually held on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
