Town Council Ordinance Action

Ordinance 2011-6:  Amend Chapter 21 (Zoning), Various Sections

Add Overlay District to portion of Community Commercial Area

Status:  On November 15, 2011 Council deferred Second Reading of Ord. 2011-6 until December 13, 2011 Council Meeting.

FIRST READING (Title Only) APPROVED. First Reading October 18, 2011; Second Reading is next step. 

More History on Overlay District Concept.  Addressing split zone parcels and exploring the value of an Overlay District in the CC Area were recommendations made by Urban Edge Design/Seamon Whitesides & Associates, the Town consultants who crafted the Town's Master Community Commercial (CC) District Plan (initiated in mid-2007 with final consultant product in January 2010).   Planning Commission held numerous public meetings in 2010 and 2011 on the issue of split zone lots and the Overlay District concept, to include two public hearings (October 13, 2010 and September 14, 2011).  On September 14, 2011, the Planning Commission recommended draft Ordinance 2011-6 to Council for consideration.  Draft Ordinance 2011-6 was provided to Council at its Workshop on Monday, October 3, 2011. 

OTHER COUNCIL NEWS:

Council met in special session at 6:00PM on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Town Hall for the following purpose:

Topic:  Hearing on Potential Overturn of Variance for 2063 Middle Street (TMS 529-09-00-017)

Variance Under Review: Variance from Section 21-150(B) granted by BZA Order dated October 13, 2011 to permit construction of larger enclosed space of existing legal nonconforming use.

Regularly scheduled Council Workshop began immediately after the Special Council Meeting.  Monthly commitee and department reports were are given during this regular monthly Workshop (held first Monday of each month).
