Special Council Meeting:  6:00PM Monday, January 25, 2010

Approximately sixty (60) people attended the January 25, 2010 Special Council Meeting at Church of Holy Cross Episcopal (2520 Middle Street) where the Town's Consultant team, Seamon, Whiteside & Associates/Urban Edge Studies, presented its final version (Version 5.0) of the Master Community Commercial (CC) District Plan.  Resident questions and comments followed this presentation.  Town Council agreed to next discuss this Plan at the March 2010 Committees of Council Meeting, under Real Estate Committee.
Many thanks to Church of Holy Cross Episcopal for the use of their facility and Staff support for this meeting.

The Town is in the process of developing a Master Plan for the Community Commercial (CC) District Corridor.
                                                                The Process
    1.  The process began with a Request for Qualifications for consultant services (summer 2007);
    2.  The Selection Committee (Council and two Planning Commission members) reviewed the bids, conducted
         finalist  interviews and selected the consultant (April - June 2008).  All meetings were open to the public.
    3.  Seamon Whiteside & Associates/Urban Edge Design Studio was selected to develop the Master Plan.  Town entered into
          contract negotiations with selected Consultant (summer 2008).
   4.   A public design charette was held from October 7-16, 2008 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church,
          2520 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island to gather public feedback and start the design process.
    5.  Consultant  providde a draft Plan to the Town that was checked by the Selection Committee and Staff
          for format and compliance with the RFQ requirements.
    6.   Consultant presented the draft Plan to the public.  NOTE:  Consultant worked with SCDOT for many months in 2009 to obtain
          coordination approval for reverse angle parking, an innovative parking configuration proposed by Consultant team.
     7.  Consultant presented final version of Master CC District Plan (Version 5.0) to public on January 25, 2010.
     8.   Council will deliberate feasibility and cost of implementing various components of the proposed Plan.  This discussion will be
            handled through the Real Estate Committee of Council.
