Town Flood Services

Town Staff is here to assist you with your flood plain questions.  We encourage you to review tips below.

The first thing you should do is check your flood hazard designation.  All of Sullivan's Island is considered to be located within a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), or in layman's terms, a Flood Zone.  Maps and flood protection references  are available at the Edgar Allen Poe Public Library.  You may also visit the Building Department at Town Hall (2050-B Middle Street) to see where your property is located in the mapped floodplain.  The Town maintains elevation certificates for new and substantially improved structures in the flood zone (SFHA) since 1977.  We can give you more information, such as depth of flooding over a buildings' first floor and past flood problems in the area.  If requested, the Building Official will visit a property to review its flood problems and explain ways to stop flooding or prevent flood damage. Call the Building Department (Randy Robinson) at (843) 883-5732 or (843) 883-5727.  These services are free.

We invite you to explore the information Town Staff have compiled on flood plain management by clicking on the tabs below.  Meanwhile, if you have specific questions, please contact the following Town Staff members at Town Hall:
