SULLIVAN'S ISLAND TRANSPORTATION & ROAD PROJECTS The Town will use this forum to keep residents as updated as possible on projects that will impact Town roads and transportation. The information posted is deemed reliable but most transportation related projects are handled by external agencies, such as SC Department of Transportation.
As of September 17, 2009: 1. PAID PARKING ON SULLIVAN'S ISLAND - CONCEPT A Special Council Meeting was held at 6:30PM on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Church of Holy Cross Episcopal, 2520 Middle Street to discuss the concept of paid parking on Sullivan's Island and to receive public input. SPEED LIMIT REDUCED ON JASPER BOULEVARD/SC 703 - 35MPH SCDOT reduced the speed limit on Jasper Boulevard/SC703, a primary SCDOT highway, to 35MPH in 2009. Golf carts and low speed vehicles (LSV) are prohibited from this primary highway by SCDOT. These vehicles may cross the primary highway, though. 3. MIDDLE STREET RE-PAVING PHASE I (JULY 2009) Section Paved: Station 22 1/2 & Middle to Station 28 1/2 & Middle (Toward Breach Inlet) Agency conducting project: Charleston County with Banks Construction (contractor) 4. MIDDLE STREET RE-PAVING PHASE II (2010) Section Impacted: Station 22 1/2 & Middle to Station 9 & Middle (Toward Fort Moultrie) Agency conducting project: SC Department of Transportation Timeline: Funding in place November 2009; project start early 2010 Note - Town was advised project would commence Spring 2009; however, in late Spring SCDOT notified the Town of funding issues that resulted in the project delay to 2010. Town Staff continue to monitor this situation and will update public when new information is available. TOWN PROJECTS IMPACTING ROADS: The Town of Sullivan's Island Water Department completed waterline projects in early spring in anticipation of the promised Spring 2009 SCDOT Middle Street re-surface work.
